Minttu PesuOpera singer and Master of Music Minttu Pesu started her career in music as a violinist in the city orchestras of Lappeenranta and Kouvola. She has studied vocal studies at the Sibelius Academy in Finland, and at the Malmö Academy of Music in Sweden. A premiere concert granted to her by the Sibelius Academy in 1998 was a critical success.

In 2001-2003 Minttu Pesu was engaged at the Pforzheim Theatern in Pforzheim, Germany, and since then she has worked as a freelance artist. In the spring of 2006, she debuted in Richard Strauss’s Die Frau ohne Schatten in the role of Keeper of the Temple Gates at the Finnish National Opera. Her other operatic roles have included Pamina in Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Fiordiligi in Così Fan Tutte, Susanna in Figaro’s Wedding, Micaela in Bizet’s Carmen, Gretel in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel, and Frau Fluth in Nicolai’s Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor. She has also succesfully performed in the operettas Countess Mariza and as Lisa in Lehár’s Land of Smiles. She has also sung in Ralf Gothóni’s TV operas Hund and The Sun in the Sand, and Wessmann’s children’s opera Ötökkä (The Bug).

Soprano Minttu Pesu is a versatile concert soloist. In addition to many Finnish orchestras, she has appeared as a soloist in Sweden, the Soviet Union, Germany and Spain. Her diverse concert repertoire ranges from works of Early Music such as Pergolesi and Boccherini, to modern contemporary music, such as Britten’s A Birthday Hansel for harp and soprano.
