Marko Nykänen, bass
Marko Nykänen began his vocal studies in 1997 with Jorma Falck. In 1998 he enrolled as a pupil of Jorma Hynninen at the Sibelius Academy. Since 2003 he has been a private student of Jukka Rasilainen.
His operatic roles include Sarastro in Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Commendatore in Don Giovanni, Baltazar in G.C. Menotti’s opera Amahl and the Night Visitors, and Gremin in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin. He has also performed the role of Gremin as a visiting performer at the Estonia-Theater in Tallinn in 2003.
In 2005 Nykänen debuted at the Finnish National Opera in Richard Strauss’s Salome, and as Bartolo in Mozart’s Figaro’s Wedding at the Pori Opera. In the spring 2006 he appeared in a new production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute at the Finnish National Opera. For the coming seasons, he has engagements as Commendatore in Don Giovanni at the Oulu Opera and as Colline in Puccini’s La bohème in Lahti, Finland.
